Hello, I'm Jan Pertruzzi,
I started my NRCS career in Delaware as a Soil Conservationist. During my time there, I gained experience working with both farmers and rural landowners addressing various resource concerns common in areas with high precipitation rates. I found my degree in soil and water management fit perfectly with NRCS.
Looking for new opportunities, I moved to Arizona where I was a District Conservationist. A couple of years ago, Arizona transitioned into a teams approach, so my job title changed to Master Soil Conservationist. Being on a team has provided me the opportunity to broaden my skills assisting existing and new rural landowners with various types of resource concerns.
I also served on Arizona’s Civil Rights Advisory Committee as the American Indian/Alaska Native Special Emphasis Program Manager. In addition, I mentored Pathways interns. In 2021, I graduated from the Arizona Center for Rural Leadership’s 12-month leadership program. This program is partnered with the University of Arizona and focuses on issues impacting rural communities around Arizona such as public safety, education, and border issues. I had the opportunity to attend the Joint Employee Organization Conference in Spokane where I made several stops at the WiN table. From here, I became interested in joining WiN and becoming a part of this organization.
I live in east-central Arizona in the White Mountains with my Welsh corgi Percy.
